Protect Your Investment

When comparing bids for product or service, it pays to be sure that you are comparing apples to apples.
If choosing a contractor:
• Does the contractor need to be licensed? The answer is yes if he is installing low voltage cabling. This is the cabling that your phone, computer, and phone run on. Check the state issued license. Make sure the license is current and active by calling 850-487-1395 or visiting www.myfloridalicense.com. Beware of fake licenses and ask to see ID.

• Do they have general liability and workman’s comp insurance? If not, YOU will be paying the bill if something goes wrong.

• Be aware that an occupational license does not entitle a person or company to offer state licensed contracting services.

• Obtain a written estimate from several licensed contractors. Make sure the estimate includes the work to be done, materials involved, completion date and total cost. Beware of contractors purporting to be the fastest or the cheapest, which may result in poor workmanship, inferior materials or unfinished jobs. In the low voltage cabling industry, UL recently warned of communication cable with unauthorized reference to UL. This cable does not comply with the standards for the US and Canada and is not authorized to bear the UL Mark or reference UL. This cable is known to be sold at: Cables.com. Photos of the product can be seen below.
